Edebeli Shatters Shot Put Record at Beynon Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Feb. 4, 2012) – Senior Jacinta Edebeli lifted the Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field team to a third place showing at Smith College's Beynon Invitational today. In addition to establishing a new program record in the shot put, the veteran also qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the pentathlon.

She was at her best in the shot put, where she took home top honors with her record toss of 12.05 meters. As a team, Mount Holyoke dominated the event accumulating 26 points. Edebeli was followed by classmate Miriam Larson-Koester (2nd – 11.46 meters), junior Connie Ward (4th – 10.28 meters), first year Jennie Ochterski (6th – 8.62 meters) and first year Emma Jobinpicard (7th – 8.45) in the top seven.

The senior finished the day with 2,624 points in the pentathlon. In addition to her performance in the shot put, she took third place in the 60-meter hurdles (10.99), fourth place in the high jump (1.38 meters), sixth place in the long jump (4.60 meters) and seventh place in the 800-meter run (2:37.27).

Mount Holyoke also received solid production from Larson-Koester, who grabbed second place in the weight throw with a toss of 12.22 meters.

Sophomore Naomi Miller qualified for the New England Division III Championships with her third place time of 2:27.48 in the 800-meter run. Meanwhile, first year Emily Baker secured second place in the 5,000-meter run with her time of 19:26.29, and junior Maddie Ballon collected second place in the pole vault with a height of 2.60 meters.

Sophomore Kate Brackett clocked a fourth place time of 11.09 in the 60-meter hurdles to round things out for the Lyons.

Amherst College won the annual meet with 278 points. The Lord Jeffs were followed by Smith (156), Mount Holyoke (126) and Wellesley College (69).

The Lyons are slated to compete in the MIT Coed Invitational next Saturday at noon.
