PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Mount Holyoke College squash team defeated Vassar College 6-3, then fell to Connecticut College 7-2 in Epps Cup consolation play as the Lyons concluded CSA Team Nationals Sunday at Drexel University.

Mount Holyoke finishes team competition this season with an 8-14 record, and sixth among seven teams in the Epps Cup (D Division) at the national tournament.

The Lyons' top two players -- first-year Habiba Abouelatta (Alexandria, Egypt) at No. 1 and junior Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) at No. 2 -- both were 2-0 on the day, scoring Mount Holyoke's only two points against Connecticut College with a pair of 3-1 victories.

Vassar lost 8-0 at home to Mount Holyoke only eight days earlier, but the Brewers were primed to upset the Lyons on Sunday, winning at positions 3 through 5 and taking the Lyons to four games in four of their six losses. But Abouelatta, Durocher, senior captain Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania), and senior captain Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) all prevailed by 3-1 scores at 1, 2, 6, and 7, respectively, as sophomore Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) swept Charlotte Banigan-White 3-0 at the No. 8 spot, and senior Keying Lin (Fujian, China) won a point by default for Mount Holyoke at the No. 9 position.

Mount Holyoke will wrap up the season at CSA Individual Championships, held March 3-5 at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
