SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College squash team scored a 7-0 victory at home over Bard College on Saturday, recording their first win of the new year.

The Lyons (4-10) swept the visiting Raptors (0-5) in straight games at positions 1 through 6, and picked up a seventh point by default from the seventh position.

The match was attended by a large group of girls from Holyoke-based Girls Inc. of the Valley, participating in a day-long visit to Mount Holyoke, partly in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day coming up this Wednesday. The girls participated in a squash lesson with the team after the match.

Mount Holyoke head coach Erin Robson singled out the play of senior captain Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) at No. 6 and first-year Habiba Abouelatta (Alexandria, Egypt) at at the No. 1 spot.

"The highlight of the day was working with the students from Girls Inc.," said Robson. "Janiqua is playing some great squash and getting back to her old form after coming back from injury. Habiba is settling in and displaying other elements within her game with every match we play."

Mount Holyoke will host Amherst College Thursday at 6pm.
