NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College squash team swept the top six positions on the ladder in a 7-2 victory at Smith College on Saturday, in the Lyons' 2022-23 season opener.
Junior Xaria Durocher (Boston, Mass.) won handily at the No. 1 position over Amrtia Acharya, heading a succession of 3-0 victories for the Lyons at the top six positions.
First-years Tina Mei (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Ku Paw (Hartford, Conn.) both won in straight sets at the second and third positions, respectively. Senior captains Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) and Dnyaneshwari Haware (Mumbai, India) did as well at four and five, respectively, and sophomore Paige Gershuny (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) also won 3-0 at No. 6.
Mount Holyoke got a seventh point, and a third victory from a newcomer to the team, with sophomore Cydney Socias' (Tampa, Fla.) 3-1 win over Louisa Goltry at No. 8.
Senior newcomer to the team Sally Philpott (Washington, D.C.) also recorded a 3-2 victory in an exhibition match.
Mount Holyoke travels to Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 19 to play Bard at 10:30am and Wellesley at 1pm.
