Golf Takes 10th Overall at Mount Holyoke College Invitational at The Orchards

South Hadley, Mass. - September 22, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College golf team had an impressive performance at the 2019 Mount Holyoke College Invitational, hosted at The Orchards Golf Club over the weekend. Regarded as the largest Division III collegiate women's golf tournament, the Lyons finished 10th out of 17 teams with a combined 695 strokes over the two-day tournament.

Mount Holyoke College was led by the efforts of sophomore Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla.), who posted a two-day total of 169, as she carded an 83 in the Final Round to finish in a tie for 40th overall. Next up was Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.), who put forth an 88 in the Final Round to compliment her 83 on Saturday for a two-day total of 171 to finish 44th in the field.

Next for the Lyons was Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.), who shot a team-best 80 (+8) on Sunday to finish with a combined score of 172 to finish in a tie for 45th, as the senior just edged Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn.), who shot a 91 to compliment her 92 on Saturday for a two-day total of 183. Rounding out the top five was Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii), who finished in a tie for 63rd with a two-day score of 193.

Spitzer was the Lyons' best player on Par 3's over the two days, as she went +1 with a scoring average of 3.13, while Qiu was one of the top players on Par 5's, finishing with a scoring average of 5.13 and was +1. 

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to Middlebury, Vt. and will compete in the George Phinney Golf Classic, hosted at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29.
