Golf Opens Competition at Middlebury's George Phinney Jr. Classic

Middlebury, Vt. - September 28, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College golf team traveled to Middlebury, Vt. for the George Phinney Jr. Golf Classic, hosted at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday afternoon. After day one of competition, the Lyons are in seventh place, as the four student-athletes in action has totaled 342 strokes.

Taking on the field of 12 teams was Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla.), Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.), Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn.). Qiu was the Lyons' top performer of the day as she carded a 77, and was followed by an 84 from Lee. Qiu was just one of six student-athletes in the field to shoot 77 or better at the first day of competition and is currently tied for fourth overall. Lee sits in 25th with her day-one score. Following Qiu and Lee was Spitzer, who currently sits in a tie for 45th with a day-one mark of 89, while Andrian rounded out the top four with a 92.

The tournament will resume with the final round on Sunday, September 29 at 9 a.m.
