Golf Finishes Fifth at Ann S. Batchelder Invitational to Begin 2019-20 Season

Wellesley, Mass. - September 15, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College golf team had an impressive showing in its first competition of the 2019-20 season, as the Lyons took fifth overall at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, hosted at the Par-72 Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley, Mass. on Sunday afternoon. 

The Lyons used a total of 673 strokes en route to their fifth-place finish on the weekend, as Mount Holyoke College shot a combined 339 on Saturday and 334 on Sunday. Leading the Lyons on the weekend was Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla.), who shot a 74 (+2) on Saturday and was third overall heading into the final round.

Leading Mount Holyoke College on Sunday was Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.), who shot a 78 (+6), as Qiu was just behind with an 80 (+8). Wrapping up the top five for the Lyons was Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.) , who both shot matching scores of 88, while Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii) was at 102 for a two-day total of 197.

Qiu's two-day total of 154 tied for fifth overall, as the sophomore was even with three other student-athletes in the field. Lee finished in a tie for 16th with a two-day total of 163, while Spitzer was 35th with a 189.

Qiu was one of the best student-athletes on Par 4's over the course of the tournament as she had a 4.10 scoring rating and finished +2 on those holes. Qiu also had a team-best three birdies, which were all on Saturday, and 22 pars over the two-day tournament.

Up next, the Lyons will return home to The Orchards Golf Club on Saturday, September 21 and will host the Mount Holyoke College Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
