Golf Finishes Seventh Overall at Middlebury's George Phinney Jr. Classic

Middlebury, Vt. - September 29, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College golf team completed the final round of the George Phinney Jr. Golf Classic on Sunday afternoon, as the Lyons recorded 366 strokes en route to a seventh-place finish among the 12-team field over the course of the weekend. The tournament was hosted at Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, Vt. 

The Lyons combined their 366 strokes on Sunday with a total of 342 strokes from Saturday to make up the 708 strokes that got them a seventh-place finish on the weekend, as they were led by sophomore Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla.), who shot an 85 to go with her 77 on Saturday for a 17th place finish in the tournament.

Next for the Lyons was Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.), who posted a second-day score of 95 to finish 44th overall, just ahead of Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.), who carded a second-day score of 92 and was the only Mount Holyoke College student-athlete to improve on day two. Rounding out the group was Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn.), who notched a score of 94 on Sunday as she cracked the Top 50 and finished in 48th overall.

Up next, the Lyons will travel to the Williams Fall Invitational, hosted at the iconic Taconic Golf Club on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.
