SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - A balanced effort from across the lineup powered the Springfield College squad to victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. With the 75-22 win, the Pride move to 12-6 overall and are now 8-1 in conference play. The Lyons slip to 1-17 and are now 0-9 in the NEWMAC.
The visiting Pride took a commanding 28-3 lead following the opening quarter, powered by a 13-point effort from senior forward Gracie Restituyo (Braintree, Mass./Thayer Academy). She also pulled down six rebounds, four off the offensive glass.
Mount Holyoke came alive in the second stanza as junior guard and captain Katlyn Grover (Bernardston, Mass./Stoneleigh Burnham School) sank a pair of three pointers, while sophomore Annika Brooks (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) and senior Leah Hodges (New Haven, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) each sank buckets to send the game into halftime with Springfield holding a 47-15 edge.
Springfield posted another solid third quarter, aided by a defensive effort that saw two blocks, two steals and a 15-10 advantage off the glass. The Pride spread the wealth in the final frame as six different players found the net, including four off the bench. Pacing the way was junior guard Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor), first year guard Megan Graves (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) and junior guard Lauren Rudolph (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) - all of whom sank three pointers.
Restituyo led all scorers in the contest, posting a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Taylor Hall (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) added 12 points, seven caroms, four assists, a steal and a block, while Goslin notched 10 points, three assists and a game-high four steals.
For Mount Holyoke, Grover notched nine points with five boards. Sophomore forward GraceAnne Woods (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) came off the bench to record five points, two caroms, three assists and a block, while Brooks posted a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with an assist and a steal.
Both squads return to action on Saturday as Mount Holyoke travels to Babson (1pm), while Springfield hosts Emerson (1pm).
