Busy Weekend Ahead for Lyons Athletics Teams

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons head to Cambridge, Mass., on Thursday to open action at the 2016 NEWMAC Championships at MIT. MHC enters with a 8-2 record in dual meet action, while earning third overall at their other championship appearances this season - the 2015 Hamilton Invitational and the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship. The Lyons are led by senior captain Cathleen Pruden, who is the defending conference champion in three events (1650-freestyle, 200-IM, 400-IM) as well as the reigning NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year.

Action begins on Thursday evening at 5:30pm with the 800-free relay. The meet runs through Sunday with trials beginning at 10am each day. Finals will begin at 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday with a 6pm start time on Sunday evening.

BASKETBALL

The Lyons head East as well this weekend, closing out the 2015-16 regular season on Saturday at Babson College. This will be the second meeting of the season between the Lyons and the Beavers, having played on November 29 in South Hadley. Leading the offensive effort for Mount Holyoke this season has been senior guard Genelle Green, who is averaging 12.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest this season.

SQUASH

Mount Holyoke (6-15) concludes its team season this weekend, heading to Yale University to compete at the 2016 CSA National Team Championships. The Lyons, who are ranked #29 in the nation, will face off against #28 Connecticut College on Friday at 5pm in the opening round of the Epps Cup.

The winner of Friday's game will advance to Saturday's 5pm draw against the winner of the match between #25 Dickinson/#32 Haverford. The losers of the two matches will square off on Saturday at 7pm. Friday's match will be third meeting of the season between the Lyons and the Camels. MHC won the first meeting in New London (12/5) by a 6-3 margin, while Conn. College grabbed a 5-4 victory in South Hadley (1/27).

TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons head north to Middlebury College this weekend as qualified individuals participate in the 2016 New England Division III Championships at Virtue Field House. The meet will feature over 50 schools and nearly 450 athletes over the two-day event, which begins on Friday with the Pentathlon. Saturday's field events will start at 11:00 a.m. with the pole vault, while the track events commence at 12:00 p.m. with the distance medley relay.

The Lyons will bring four athletes to this year's meet, participating in five different events. Last season, the Lyons sent four athletes, plus a relay team to the event, highlighted by a third-place finish from current senior and captain Camille Coklow in the 60-meter dash.
