Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Mar. 28th

RIDING

Mount Holyoke returned to the arena last weekend, posting victory in its final regular season show of the year. Junior captain Bridget Finnerty (Baltimore, Md.) took home top honors as the Overall High Point Rider, while senior Suyin Taunton (Amherst, Mass.) was the Reserve High Point Rider. The Lyons return to action this weekend as qualified individuals compete at the Regional Championships, hosted at Biscuit Hill Farms in Shelburne on Saturday.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke kicked-off its outdoor season on Saturday, competing at the non-team scoring Wesleyan Spring Classic. The Lyons were paced by a number of solid efforts, including a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run by senior Elizabeth DeLeon (Boise, Idaho). MHC is back in action this Saturday when it travels to Fitchburg State to compete at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational.

LACROSSE

The Lyons suffered losses to Western New England (14-6) and Skidmore (18-9) last week. MHC was paced by a nine-goal effort from senior captain and attacker Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.), who had a game-high five tallies in Saturday's loss to the Thoroughbreds. Mount Holyoke (1-4) opens NEWMAC action on Wednesday when it hosts Emerson at 6:30pm. The Lyons conclude the week on Saturday at home against Babson at 12pm. TENNIS

Mount Holyoke shouldered a tough 5-4 loss to Trinity last Saturday. Despite the loss, the Lyons put forth a tough effort, battling back from being down 5-2 mid-way through singles. First year Clara Wang (Madison, Conn.) championed the effort, gutting out a three-set victory from the fourth flight. MHC (8-6) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 5:30pm. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday, welcoming Colby-Sawyer (10am) before traveling to Connecticut College on Sunday (10:30am).

ROWING

The Lyons opened their 2016 schedule on Saturday, competing in Hadley against several teams. MHC saw its 'A' boat win the race, while the 'B' boat finished third of the four competing crews. Mount Holyoke is back on the river this weekend when it travels to Medford, Mass., to battle Tufts, Hamilton and Trinity on the Malden River on Saturday.
