SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The 18th Annual Friends of Athletics Golf Tournament, which benefits Mount Holyoke Athletics, took place on Monday at The Orchards Golf Club. It was another outstanding event which saw beautiful weather and some great golf.

This year’s men’s division was won by Ken Pierce, Steve Carpentier, Jim Dalrymple and Chase Weirdsma, who combined for a score of 64 and won on a match of cards. Runner-up in the division was the foursome of David Hoffman, Ernie Leblanc, Jim Kelly and Greg Anderson, who also shot a 64.

In the mixed division, the foursome of John Tabb, Bill Fallon, Deb Chappell and Rosemary Stocks were the winners with a score of 66. Coming in just behind was the foursome of Jenna Rahilly, Tom Pisano, Bob Harrison and James Wage, who shot a 68.

Finally in the women’s division, the foursome of Susan d’Olive Mozena, Carol Johnson, Sally Fitzgerald and Marianne Farmer won with a score of 83. Kathleen Condon, Pat Tway, Betty Thurston and Ginger Goldsbury were the runners-up, shooting a 90 on the day.

This year’s event also featured several contests at various holes. Jim Kelly (2’1”) and Pat Tway (28’) were the closest-to-the-pin winners for the men (hole #17) and women (hole #7), respectively. In the longest drive competition, Bill Fallon and Rosemary Stocks were the men’s (hole #8) and women’s (hole #14) winners.

Additionally, the event featured a Beat the Coach hole, which allowed groups to compete against MHC head golf coach Tim Walko. If the group had a player get the ball closer-to-the-pin than Coach Walko, they were entered into a $100 raffle. This year’s winner graciously donated the money back to the department.

It’s never too early to start thinking about next year’s tournament! The 19th annual Friends of Athletics Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016. We look forward to seeing everyone once again!
