Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 27th

LACROSSE

The Lyons saw their 2015 season come to an end last week, going 1-1 overall. MHC opened the week with a 16-5 victory over Smith, which secured the final playoff spot for the NEWMAC Tournament. In the quarterfinals on Saturday, MHC got a four-goal effort from senior Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.), but the Lyons were unable to advance to the NEWMAC Semifinals, falling to Wellesley by an 11-8 margin. Mount Holyoke concluded its season with a 6-10 record, going 3-5 in the NEWMAC.

 

TRACK & FIELD

Junior Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.) won her second straight NEWMAC Championship title in the 100-meter dash and the Lyons overall finished seventh at this year's meet. In total, there were 10 finishes in the top-10 for Mount Holyoke. The squad returns to action this weekend when it travels back to MIT to compete in the 2015 Division III New England Championships. Action begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday.

 

GOLF

The Lyons concluded their season last weekend, finishing second overall at the 2015 Liberty League Championships. MHC saw a number of outstanding efforts, paced by sophomore June Conti (Amenia, N.Y.), who was second overall, garnering her second straight All-Liberty League First Team honor. The Lyons saw sophomore Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn.) and senior Madi Mendiola (San Diego, Calif.) both finish in eighth to earn All-League Second Team recognition.

 

RIDING

The Lyons return to action on Thursday when they head to the Eastern States Exposition (The Big E) to compete at the 2015 IHSA National Championships. The event runs from April 30 through May 3. Fans on campus wishing to take in the action can take advantage of a free MHC courtesy shuttle on Thursday. The shuttle will leave from Blanchard Circle at 8am, 9:30am, 11am and 12:30pm, while shuttles leaving the Big E will be at 8:45am, 10:15am, 11:45am and 2:30pm.

 

ROWING

The Lyons competed at the 2015 NEWMAC Championship last weekend in Worcester. MHC finished seventh overall on the weekend as senior Hannah Arbach (Springfield, Va.) and sophomore Molly Lapointe (Kennebunk, Maine) were named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team. Mount Holyoke is back in the water on Lake Quinsigamond this Saturday as it competes at the 2015 New England Championships.
