The Lyons were back in action Saturday, competing at the 24th annual Holiday Tournament of Champions, hosted by Centenary College. MHC had two teams in action at the event, led by Team J, which finished fifth overall. Junior captain Bridget Finnerty (Baltimore, Md.) finished fourth in the medal round, also posting fifth and sixth in Open Fences and Open Flat, respectively. The Lyons are now idle until January 23rd when they compete at the Winter Tournament of Champions I, hosted in Fredricksburg, Va.
Mount Holyoke was back in the pool last weekend at the competitive Hamilton College Invitational. The Lyons finished third overall in the eight team field, powered by three pool and meet records from senior captain Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.), who finished with five overall wins on the weekend. MHC (3-1 dual meet) is now idle until January 12th when it travels to Wheaton College where it will face the host Lyons and Clark for a 1pm meet.
The Lyons shouldered losses at Springfield and Wellesley last week in NEWMAC action. MHC (0-8; 0-3 NEWMAC) returns to the court on Wednesday in a non-conference 5:30pm tilt at MCLA. The Lyons close out the week and the fall semester on Saturday, hosting Lasell at 1pm at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. Mount Holyoke went 3-0 last week with wins against Smith College (9-0), Connecticut College (6-3) and Vassar College (8-1). The Lyons got outstanding efforts from a number of players on the week, including senior Annie Wong (Oakland, Calif.), who went 3-0. Mount Holyoke (3-2) is now idle until January 12 when it travels to Colby for a 5pm match.
Under the direction of 30th-year head coach Tina Lee, the Lyons track & field team opened its season at the non-team scoring Smith College Invitational last weekend. Pacing the efffort was senior Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.), who won the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.83. That mark was a Division III and Open New England qualifying mark as well. She also helped the Distance Medley Relay team to victory. MHC is now idle until January 16 when they travel to Vermont to take part in the Middlebury Invitational.
