Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With Convincing Win Over Roger Williams

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 21, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a convincing 7-2 triumph over Roger Williams University this afternoon. Sophomore AnnElizabeth Konkel and senior Heather Richardson came out on top at both singles and doubles to set the tone for the Lyons, who closed out their 2011-12 campaign with an overall record of 9-11.

Mount Holyoke swept the doubles matches to gain control in the early going. Konkel and junior Nahrhee Han got things going with an 8-2 win at the number one spot. Richardson and sophomore Kelsey Brower prevailed 8-6 in the second slot. Meanwhile, senior Sarah Moore and first year Jenni Lee pulled out a 9-7 victory in the number three contest.

The Lyons finished out the match with four singles points from the bottom of their lineup. First year Sarah Anischik, Konkel and sophomore Eman Malik rolled in straight sets, while Richardson won by default.

Roger Williams (12-7, 6-2 CCC) got on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 victory by junior Tracy Klein in the number one spot. The Hawks also received a point from sophomore Samantha Curran, who overcome an early deficit to win in a third set super tiebreaker in the second slot.

Prior to the match, Richardson and Moore were honored for their contributions to the program over the past four seasons.

Mount Holyoke (9-11, 3-4 NEWMAC) is perfect in five all-time meetings between the teams.
