Lyons Game Day Central: Tennis vs. Wesleyan

THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke entertains non-conference foe Wesleyan University this evening at the Tennis Courts. In 28 previous meetings between the programs, the Cardinals own a 17-11 advantage. They downed the Lyons for the fourth time in a row last season, winning by a score of 8-1. Match Program

MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (1-3, 0-2 NEWMAC) has dropped three straight matches after opening the season with a 9-0 triumph over Saint Joseph College. Sarah Moore, Maya Sayarath and AnnElizabeth Konkel have posted two singles wins apiece to lead the way for the Lyons. Konkel has also been impressive in doubles play, where she has gone 3-1. Two of those wins have come at the top of the lineup with Nahrhee Han. Sayarath is coming off a rookie campaign in which she was voted to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team for her outstanding play at number two doubles. This season, she has joined forces with newcomer Sarah Anischik. As a team, the Lyons have prevailed nine times in singles matches and six times in doubles contests. Last season, the team posted an overall record of 9-11.

Opponent Logo THE CARDINALS: Wesleyan (2-1, 0-1 NESCAC) kicked off its 2011-12 season with a 6-3 triumph over Simmons College. After topping Nichols College 7-2, the Cardinals suffered an 8-1 setback to Williams College in their NESCAC opener on Saturday. Grace Smith and Lauren Jacobs have posted a perfect 3-0 mark at second doubles to set the tone. In addition to their success in doubles, they have each gone 2-1 in singles matches. Kiley Robbins and Hannah Berkman have recorded a pair of singles wins, as well. Wesleyan finished with an overall record of 11-6 last season.  

NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will resume its NEWMAC slate at home against MIT on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Wesleyan is scheduled to visit Roger Williams University for a non-conference match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
