Tennis Blanks Saint Joseph in 2011-12 Debut

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Sept. 9, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team kicked off its 2011-12 campaign with a convincing 9-0 victory over Saint Joseph College this afternoon at the Saint Joseph Tennis Courts. With the win, the Lyons remained perfect in seven all-time meetings against the Blue Jays.

Maya Sayarath, Sarah Anischik, AnnElizabeth Konkel, Kelsey Brower, Heather Richardson and Sarah Moore each recorded victories at both singles and doubles to set the tone for Mount Holyoke.


The Lyons swept the three double matches to gain an early advantage. After Richardson and Moore cruised to an 8-0 triumph in their number three contest, Konkel and Brower teamed up for an 8-2 win at the second slot. Sayarath and Anischik then finished things off with an 8-6 victory in their number one match.

Mount Holyoke proceeded to win all six singles contests in dominant fashion. From top to bottom, the lineup featured Sayarath, Anischik, Konkel, Brower, Richardson and Moore. All six players won in straight sets. They dropped just six games in the process.

The Lyons (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) will open up their NEWMAC slate at Babson College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
