TROY, N.Y. (Apr. 7, 2012) – After picking up consecutive victories over Connecticut College and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to RPI this afternoon at Sharp Courts. The Lyons are slated to host the annual Seven Sisters Championship next weekend. They have gone 2-2 thus far this spring.

Junior Nahrhee Han and sophomore AnnElizabeth Konkel got Mount Holyoke on the board with an 8-2 triumph over Casey Olsen and Amanda Alexander at number one doubles.

Sophomore Maya Sayarath and first year Jenni Lee led 5-2 in their number three match against Katrina Bohnhorst and Brianna Dickie before falling 9-7. Meanwhile, senior Heather Richardson and sophomore Kelsey Brower were dropped 8-2 by Christina Ciamarra and Lexi Rindone in the second slot.

RPI's top four singles players then won in straight sets to put things away. From top to bottom, the group included Olsen, Ciamarra, Meghan Olson and Alexander. Olsen struggled in the early going against Han before winning by a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

Mount Holyoke's two singles victories came from sophomore Eman Malik and Richardson. After dropping the first set of her number five match against Rindone, Malik bounced back for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph. Meanwhile, Richardson came up with a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Russell in what proved to be the most competitive match of the day.

The Lyons will welcome Bryn Mawr College, Smith College, Vassar College and Wellesley College to South Hadley for the annual Seven Sisters Championship next weekend. The tournament is scheduled to get underway on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. Wellesley topped Vassar 4-1 in the final match last year to secure its 12th title. Mount Holyoke grabbed third place for the second straight season.
