Tennis Races Past Clark For Second Straight Win

WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 6, 2011) – Sophomore Maya Sayarath, first year Sarah Anischik, and sophomore AnnElizabeth Konkel each prevailed at both singles and doubles to lead the Mount Holyoke College tennis team to a convincing 8-1 triumph over Clark University this evening at the Corash Tennis Courts. With the win, the Lyons improved to 3-5 on the year. It was their 15th straight win over their NEWMAC counterparts.

Mount Holyoke swept the doubles matches to gain control of the contest in the early going. Konkel and junior Nahrhee Han won 8-3 at the top the lineup, while Sayarath and Anischik teamed up for an 8-5 victory in their number two tilt. Sophomore Kelsey Brower and senior Heather Richardson chipped in with an 8-1 triumph in third slot.

The Lyons proceeded to take five of the six singles points. Sayarath, sophomore Eman Malik, Konkel and senior Sarah Moore each won in straight sets at the numbers two, four, five and six spots, respectively. Meanwhile, Anischik came out on top 6-7, 7-5, 10-7 in her number three matchup.

Clark's (9-5, 0-4 NEWMAC) lone win came from sophomore Gaby Suriano, who defeated Han in straight sets at the top of the lineup. The Cougars are still in search of their first win of the season.

Mount Holyoke (3-5, 2-3 NEWMAC) will return to action on Saturday, when it visits Wheaton College for a pivotal NEWMAC showdown at 1:00 p.m.
