Cross country boasts top GPA among DIII New England teams

NEW ORLEANS -- The Mount Holyoke College cross country team boasted the highest cumulative team grade point average of any Division III team, as the Lyons were one of 212 teams to receive 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Additionally, the team's top runner in 2022, senior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.), was named a 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Athlete for the second straight year. 

The Lyons' team GPA of 3.84 ranks as the 11th-highest among the 212 teams receiving the honor, and the highest of any DIII team in New England. WPI, Smith and Amherst wer tied for second among New England teams at 3.81 each.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. Selkin, who competed for Mount Holyoke at the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, is one of 383 women to receive the honor.
