Selkin officially invited to compete in second straight NCAA Cross Country Championship

INDIANAPOLIS -- Mount Holyoke College senior Lauren Selkin, who became Mount Holyoke College's first-ever competitor in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships a year ago, officially received her second invitation to the national meet on Sunday after clinching it on Saturday at NCAA Regionals.

Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) finished ninth overall at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship Saturday at St. Lawrence University, helping Mount Holyoke place 11th out of 21 teams and immediately qualifying as an individual for NCAAs as one of the first seven student-athletes in the region who are not a part of a qualifying team. She earned both All-Region and All-New England honors for her efforts, two weeks after earning NEWMAC All-Conference honors for placing second at the NEWMAC Championships.

Joining Selkin as individual qualifiers from the Mideast Region are Claire Semerod of Coast Guard, Julia Curran and Lauren Hino of Connecticut College, Kate Cochran of SUNY New Paltz, Augusta Stockman of Vassar, and Stephanie Ager of Wesleyan (Conn.).

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that was held this past weekend. Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. Seventy individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority are hosting the championships Nov. 19 at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern, followed by the men's race at noon.

A live webstream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.

Selkin finished 48th overall in 2021, eight spots away from earning All-America status.
