Franklin, Mass. - October 9, 2019 - Behind 10 kills and six digs from senior Sasha Simine (Kitchener, Ont.), the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep of Dean College on Wednesday evening at Pieri Gymnasium. The Lyons won by the set scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-9.

With the win, Mount Holyoke College is now 5-13 on the year, while the Bulldogs drop to 6-10 overall.

Along with 10 kills from Simine, sophomore Sarah Bishop (Rutland, Mass.) and Marianne Simon (Miami, Fla.) added eight kills apiece, while Chelsea Galicia (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) notched a match-high 14 digs in the victory. Brayden Walden (McKinney, Texas) and Alexandra Keough (Endicott, N.Y.) combined for 30 assists and directed the Lyons' offense to hitting .314 for the match. 

After the Lyons jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set, back-to-back kills from McKenna Crosby (Jonesborough, Tenn.) resulted in Mount Holyoke College leading 10-9, before Simine and Bishop earned consecutive kills, making it 12-10, Lyons. A three-point burst opened an 18-13 lead for Mount Holyoke College following an ace from Keough, before a late kill from Simine provided the fuel for the Lyons to close out the 25-19 first-set victory.

Simon rattled of three-straight kills in the early stages of the second set to give Mount Holyoke College an 8-3 lead, before another kill from the first year forced a timeout from the Dean bench with the Lyons ahead 11-5. After Dean pulled to within five, Crosby and Simine pushed Mount Holyoke College to a 16-9 advantage following a pair of kills. With the score at 18-13, the Lyons went on a 7-0 run to end the second set, finished off with a kill from Simon.

Mount Holyoke College kept the momentum going into the third set and opened the frame with an eight-point run, capped by an ace from Walden. Holding a 14-6 lead after a kill from Gabrielle Davis (Keller, Texas), Bishop and Walden used kills of their own to give the visitors a 20-7 advantage. From there, the Lyons would close out the set and the mathch with a kill from Simine and a pair of errors from the Bulldogs.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will return home to Howard Gymnasium on Friday, October 11 when it will host Western New England at 6 p.m.
