Tennis Finishes Third at Seven Sisters Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 9, 2017)  The 2017 Seven Sisters Tennis Championship concluded today with five more matches at Mount Holyoke College. Vassar College pulled out a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Wellesley College in the final contest of the day. In doing so, the Brewers secured their 14th title and their third straight title since 2015. They finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

Wellesley's 3-1 record was good for second place overall. Mount Holyoke finished 2-2 for third, while Smith College was 1-3 for fourth. Bryn Mawr College rounded out the field in fifth with an 0-4 mark.

Vassar clinched the match with three victories to start. Junior Kate Christensen posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wellesley first year Sarah Yan, followed by a second doubles victory from junior Dasha Ivenitsky and first year Vista Grinde. They posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wellesley's duo of first year Selina Peng and senior Sojin Ki. Senior Connie Yoo clinched the win for the Brewers from third singles as she bested Blue first year Korina Hernandez, 6-4, 6-2.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Yoo, Ivenitsky and Grinde were named to the All-Tournament Team. They were joined by Tara Edwards (Vassar), Morgane Flournoy (Vassar), Carina Chen (Wellesley), Andjela Stojkovic (Wellesley), Ching-Ching Huang (Mount Holyoke), Catherine Peabody (Mount Holyoke), Margaret Anne Smith (Smith), Lizzie Siegle (Bryn Mawr) and Sydney Kim (Bryn Mawr).

Vassar and Wellesley entered the final match with perfect 3-0 records. Earlier in the day, the Blue bested Bryn Mawr, 5-0, and the Brewers posted a 4-1 win over Mount Holyoke. The Lyons sealed third place after grabbing a 5-0 victory over Smith in the morning opener. Meanwhile, the Pioneers sealed fourth place with a 3-2 triumph over Bryn Mawr.
