BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team shouldered a 6-3 road loss at Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. The Lyons, who grabbed victory in three of the six singles matches, move to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in NEWMAC action.

Following a 3-0 start to the match for Babson, the visiting Lyons put on some pressure with three singles victories. First year Ching-Ching Huang captured the win in the second flight, besting Chloe Brandt. After falling behind 4-6 in the opening set, Huang came back to win the second set, 6-2 and claimed the super tie-breaker, 1-0 (10-5).

Classmate Catherine Peabody had a similar battle from the fourth flight against Kylie Kam. Dropping the opening set, 2-6, she battled back for a 6-0 win and a 7-5 match decision. Rounding out the wins for the Lyons was senior captain Amy Chen, who took on Alexandra Blizard in the sixth flight. She edged Blizard 7-6 (7-2) in the opening set, before claiming a 7-5 decision in the second to win.

Sophomore Ayame Yazawa also had a tough fight in the opening flight, taking on Tatiana Ramirez. Winning the opener, 6-4, she was unable to hold off Ramirez, who won 6-3, 6-3 in the second and deciding sets for the victory.

Other singles action saw Babson's Claire Foster defeat Lyons junior Ishita Tibrewal, 6-3, 6-0 at three, while MHC sophomore Madison Rosen fell to Beavers' Emily Roeper, 6-4, 6-4 at five.

Doubles action saw Brandt and Dina Weick best Yazawa and Huang, 8-4 from the first flight. Ramirez and Foster combined for an 8-3 win over Peabody and senior captain Alexa Colas, while Kam and Roeper defeated MHC's Chen and sophomore Clara Wang, 8-5.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it competes at the NEWITT Tournament. The Lyons finished fourth overall in the regular season standings and will be the fourth-seed for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. MHC will likely host Wheaton (finished fifth in standings) on Wednesday, October 19 at 3pm.
