Squash Duo Excels on Day 1 at CSA Individual Nationals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Action at the 2019 CSA Individual National Championships got underway on Friday at the Nicol Squash Club at Moses Brown School. First year Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige and senior Nadindhi Udangawa are representing the Mount Holyoke College squash team at the event, both having solid efforts on the opening day of action.

Kalahe Arachchige, who is the top-ranked player in the B Division North of the Holleran Cup, cruised to an 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 victory in the opening round against Haverford's Kaitlin Reese. Next up in the quarterfinals, she faced off against Stanford's Amita Gondi. In a tough battle, Kalahe Arachchige prevailed in five by an 11-7, 11-4, 2-11, 6-11, 11-9 margin. With the win, she moves on to the main draw semifinals and will now face Columbia's Jui Kalgutkar at 11:40am Saturday, playing on court four.

Udangawa, who is playing in the B Division East of the Holleran Cup, shouldered a tough loss in her opening match against Princeton's Elle Ruggiero, 11-2, 11-2, 11-6. She moved into the consolation draw, earning an 11-4, 11-5, 12-10 win against Tufts' Claire Davidson. Udangawa will now play on Saturday at 11:40am on court two against Columbia's Jane Pincus.
