#21 Squash to Open Team Nationals Against #20 Franklin & Marshall

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Mount Holyoke College squash team, which is currently ranked 21st in the latest Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) rankings has earned a spot in the Walker Cup (C Division) at this weekend's CSA Women's Team National Championships. The Lyons will square-off against #20 Franklin & Marshall to open the event, which will begin with First Round action on Friday at 2pm. The match will take place at the Rosenbaum Squash Center on the campus of Wesleyan University.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to the Semifinals on Saturday to square-off against the winner of the #17 Tufts vs. #24 St. Lawrence, set to be played at 6:30pm at the Kneller Squash Center on the campus of Trinity College. The bracket is filled out as #19 Bates plays #22 Hamilton, while #18 Dickinson battles #23 Wesleyan. All First Round and Consolation match play will be at Wesleyan, while the Semifinal and Championship matches will occur at Trinity for the Walker Cup bracket.

Mount Holyoke is facing the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall for the first time since the 2013-14 season. In the all-time series, the Diplomats own a 9-3 record - dating back to the first match in 1993-94 - a 6-3 F&M victory. The Diplomats are riding a two-game win streak into the match, having bested Mount Holyoke in 2012-13 and 2013-14. F&M is squaring off against Mt. Holyoke for the first time since the 2013-14 season as the Diplomats enter with a two-match winning streak in the series. 

Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Erin Robson, Mount Holyoke heads into the CSA Team Nationals with a 15-7 mark, including wins in each of their last two matches. The Lyons captured their third straight Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday, February 9 with victories over Smith and Vassar for their 11th crown in program history. MHC is 6-4 over its last 10 contests, including wins against Connecticut College, Haverford, Wesleyan and William Smith.

Leading the Lyons statistically is rookie Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige who owns a 17-1 overall record as the team's top player in the ladder. Her only loss of the season came against the top player from Trinity - which was ranked #2 at the time of the match and is now #3. Senior captain Ragini Ghose owns a 15-5 mark on the season, including 9-2 from the third spot, while rookie Maeve Watts-Roy is 14-5 which includes an 8-3 mark at four. Through 22 matches, the Lyons top four players on the ladder have combined for a 55-14 overall record. 

Mount Holyoke is back in the Walker Cup, an annual matchup of the nation's No. 17-24 teams, for the first time since the 2013-14 season. The Lyons were Walker Cup Champions in 2003. For more information about the bracket, including name origin and past winners, click here.
