#28 Squash Suffers First Loss of Season at #2 Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. - Despite a number of strong performances, the Mount Holyoke College squash team could not overcome a dominant Trinity College, falling 9-0 to the Bantams on Wednesday evening. Trinity, the second-ranked team in the nation, is now 1-0. The Lyons, who are #28 currently, suffer their first loss of the season and are now 5-1 overall.

The match, which utilized a three-court system, saw a number of solid efforts by MHC. Rookie Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige put forth a strong match against Karla Dominguez from the top of the ladder, falling 11-9, 11-4, 11-5. From two, Min Jie Teh bested Lyons' senior Nadhindhi Udangawa, 11-6, 11-3, 11-3, while from three senior Ragini Ghose suffered a tough 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 loss to Trinity's Vanessa Raj.

Four saw first year Maeve Watts-Roy fall 11-4, 11-1, 11-2 against the Bantams' Akanksha Salunkhe, while at five, senior Lessly Portillo fell to Jennifer Haley by an 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 margin.

At six, Nadia Usenko posted an 11-1, 11-0, 11-2 win over MHC sophomore Jennifer Mbah while from seven, Lakeesha Rarere earned an 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 victory over Lyons' senior Tanishka Sachidanand.

From eight, Amina Taher had an 11-0, 11-2, 11-1 win over sophomore Genesis Lara Granados, as Campbell Brown bested rookie Giselle Cabrera, 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.

The Lyons, who played hard throughout the match, are now idle until Saturday when they travel to Amherst for an 11am neutral-site match against Northeastern. MHC then travels to Hamilton College on Sunday, taking on the Continentals at 2pm, followed by a neutral match against St. Lawrence at 4pm.
