Squash Improves to 5-0; Bests Fordham and Rochester

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Powered by a pair of shutout efforts, the Mount Holyoke College squash team moved to 5-0 on the season following games at the Bard College Round Robin on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons defeated Fordham, 9-0 and concluded the day with an 8-0 victory over the University of Rochester to remain undefeated on the season.

In the opener agains the Rams, senior Ragini Ghose recorded an 11-4, 11-2, 11-1 victory against Emily Couch from the top of the ladder. Rookie Maeve Watts-Roy had an 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 win against Kat Coleman at two, while senior Lessly Portillo bested Emily Bergin, 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 from three. Sophomore Jennifer Mbah defeated Amanda D'Antone, 11-5, 11-3, 11-1 from four, followed by a win from sophomore Genesis Lara Granados at five over Olivia Distefano, 11-6, 11-7, 11-3.

At six, sophomore Nicole Lara Granados posted an 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 victory over Caroline Westdyk, while rookie Giselle Cabrera defeated Diana Farrell, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 from seven to post her first collegiate win. The eighth match saw sophomore Emma Robson and Liza Gracheva square-off as Robson took an 11-0, 11-5, 11-0 win. First year Melissa Marquez then earned her first collegiate win with an 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 victory against Juanita Galindo from nine.

In the second match of the day, the Lyons took on the Yellowjackets and continued their dominance. At the top of the ladder, senior Nadhindhi Udangawa earned an 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 victory against Maralarosa Erdenebat. Watts-Roy took on Maria Majid at two, garnering the 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 victory.

Sophomore Kuzivakwashe Madungwe posted an 11-3, 11-3, 11-1 win over Khrushbe Modi from three, while Genesis Lara Granados earned an 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 win over Nicole Rinalde at four. From five, Nicole Lara Granados had an 11-3, 11-5, 11-2 victory against Hannah Goldring at five. Cabrera posted her second win of the day at six with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 win against Sarah Saco, while Robson defeated Abby Cramer at seven by an 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 margin.

Wrapping up the match was Marquez, who bested Peyton Maccarone, 11-3, 11-6, 11-2. A ninth match was not played due to a lack of players for Rochester.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on November 28 when it travels to Trinity College for a 7pm match.
