Springfield posts NEWMAC win over lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield College ran out to an 11-0 lead after one quarter and coasted to a 20-1 victory over the visiting Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team in a NEWMAC contest Saturday afternoon.

Lauren Landino totaled a game-high four points on two goals and two assists for the host Pride (5-4, 2-1 NEWMAC), while Abby Taylor and Arielle Johnson each added three points and Liz Neri tacked on three goals.

The Pride set the tone early as it outshot the visitors by a 21-0 margin in the opening 15 minutes of play and found the back of the cage 11 times. Springfield added four more goals in the second quarter en route to a 15-0 halftime edge. A goal from Neri with 3:30 left in the third pushed Springfield's lead to 16-0 before first-year Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) was able to convert for the Lyons for their lone goal of the game at the 1:12 mark. Bisson tied for the game lead with seven draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Tower (Dover, N.H.) made eight saves for Mount Holyoke, as Springfield outshot the Lyons by a 34-9 margin.

Mount Holyoke (3-6, 0-3 NEWMAC) will host Babson next Saturday, April 8 at 1pm in search of its first conference win.
