Golf Competes in Jack Leaman Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 17, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's golf team took part in the annual Jack Leaman Championship this weekend. A total of 12 teams competed in the two day tournament, which began on Saturday at Hickory Ridge Country Club and concluded today at the Orchards Golf Club.

Mount Holyoke was paced by Alexandra Irish, who collected 10th place overall. The junior posted a two day total of 167 (90, 77). She finished just nine strokes off the pace set by Wellesley College's Kimberly Eaton, who took home medalist honors.

The Lyons also received a boost from senior Sarah Keating, who finished in 31st place with a score of 176 (87, 89). Sophomore Felicitas Gerlach secured 55th place (198 – 100, 98), and senior Cassie Reid-Dodick placed 60th (208 – 109, 99).

Methodist University cruised to the team title with a score of 651. Meanwhile, Amherst College (667) and Williams College (677) rounded out the top three. Mount Holyoke's team total of 749 was good for 12th place.

The race for medalist honors came down to the wire, with Eaton narrowly edging out Elizabeth Monty of Amherst and Georgiana Salant of Williams. Eaton finished just one stroke in front with her score of 158 (78, 80).

Mount Holyoke will close out its 2010-11 campaign at the Williams College Spring Invitational. The two day event is slated to begin on Saturday, April 30 and conclude the following day.
