Golf Kicks Off Spring Slate at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 10, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's golf team kicked off the spring portion of its 2010-11 slate with an eighth place finish at the Vassar College Invitational this weekend. A total of 12 squads competed in the two round tournament, which took place at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club (par 72 - 5,805 yards).

Mount Holyoke was paced by senior Sarah Keating, who grabbed 15th place with a two day total of 175 (91, 84). Junior Alexandra Irish carded a 177 (90, 87) to take 17th place. Meanwhile, senior Cassie Reid-Dodick finished 43rd (205 – 100, 105), and sophomore Felicitas Gerlach placed 47th (211 – 106, 105).

Williams claimed the team title with its score of 686. The Ephs narrowly edged out Amherst College, which finished just five strokes off the pace with a score of 691. Vassar (700), New York University (711), Middlebury College (717), Ithaca College (751), SUNY Cortland (756), Mount Holyoke (768), Wellesley College (768), St. Lawrence University (776), William Smith College (829) and Nazareth College (831) rounded out the field.

Wellesley's Kimberly Eaton earned medalist honors with her two round tally of 163 (81, 82). She finished eight shots in front of Middlebury's Flora Weeks, who carded a 165 (84, 81).

Mount Holyoke will tee off again next weekend at the annual Jack Leaman Championship. The tournament, which will take place at both the Orchards and Hickory Ridge Country Club, is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
