WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke rowing team's first varsity eight outraced St. Lawrence University and Colby College to take fourth place out of six boats in the Third Level Final race on Sunday at the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond, while the Lyons' second varsity eight outraced St. Lawrence in its Third Level Final.
In its preliminary heat on Sunday morning, the Lyons' WV8 finished the 2,000-meter course in 7:48.210, behind Smith, Wesleyan, Ithaca, WPI, and Connecticut College, advancing to the Third Level Final for the seven WV8 boats that didn't make the Grand Final or Petite Final. In that race, the Lyons finished in 7:32.794, outpacing St. Lawrence (7:36.132) and Colby (7:47.830) while finishing behind Connecticut College, Clark, Skidmore, and Rochester.
Mount Holyoke's 2V8 placed sixth out of six boats in its morning heat, trailing Williams, Wellesley, Bates, WPI and Rochester in a time of 8:07.434. The Lyons 2V8 went on to the Third Level Final and took fifth place among six boats in 8:07.332, defeating St. Lawrence (8:20.914) while trailing William Smith, Rochester, Skidmore, and Connecticut College.
Mount Holyoke also raced a four in the Open Fours category, which placed sixth in 9:45.781 behind UNH A, Hamilton, Wesleyan, Skidmore, and UNH B.
The regatta concluded the academic year for all Lyons varsity athletic teams.
