WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team's first varsity eight nipped Connecticut College and Colby College to take fourth place in the Final 3 on Saturday afternoon, highlighting the New England Rowing Championships for the Lyons at Lake Quinsigamond.
The Final 3, comprising the six 1V8 boats ranked 13th through 18th after Saturday morning heats, was a highly competitive race, with Trinity winning in 6:41.70, followed by Clark (6:48.00), Middlebury (6:54.58), Mount Holyoke (6:55.10), Connecticut College (6:56.29), and Colby (6:57.25).
Saturday morning, the Lyons 1V8 took sixth place out of seven boats in Heat 2, with a time of 7:03.97 over the 2,000-meter course topping seventh-place Assumption (8:02.57) but trailing Tufts, Bates, Wesleyan, Coast Guard, and Clark.
Mount Holyoke's 2V8 took fifth place in the Final 3 in its division with a time of 7:31.85, just 1.2 seconds behind fourth-place Connecticut College. The Lyon 2V8 was fifth out of five boats in its morning heat against Wellesley, Holiy Cross, Williams and Middlebury.
In the women's 3V8 division, Mount Holyoke finished seventh among seven boats in the petite final with a time of 8:39.53, following a morning heat time of 8:26.76 that also earned seventh place.
Mount Holyoke returns to Lake Quinsigamond on Friday for the National Invitational Rowing Championships.
