Rowing Has Impressive Showing at Head of the Riverfront

Hartford, Conn. - October 6, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team was back in action for the second time in as many days this weekend, as the Lyons competed at the Head of the Riverfront in Hartford, Conn.

"We definitely have some tired legs after racing back to back this weekend," said head Mount Holyoke College rowing coach Seth Hussey. " I'm proud of the way we battled today and I'm looking forward to finding more speed in the coming weeks."

Featuring a variety of events throughout the day, Mount Holyoke College was first represented in the Women's Open 8, as the team of Casey Roepke (Burlingame, Calif.)Elizabeth Hazen(Brookline, Mass.)Simran Kaur (Hanover, N.H.)Xena Ault (Forest Park, Ill.)Johanna Van Fleet (Bow, N.H.)Jocelyn Greer (Glen Rock, N.J.), Hannah LeBlanc (Portland, Ore.)Piper Kilgore (Deerfield, N.H.) and coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson (Berkeley, Calif.) finished sixth overall with a time of 16:47.61.

Following this group in the same race was team of Sarah Lancaster (Ann Arbor, Mich.)Amy Wang (Beijing, China)Katherine Dailey (Camden, Maine), Claire Gabel (Watertown, Mass.), Lainie LaRonde (Manlius, N.Y.)Halee Mahoney(Ann Arbor, Mich.)Audrey Shannon (Milton, Ga.) and Sabina Morris (New York, N.Y.), led by coxswain Jaia Colognese (Jamestown, R.I.), which took 22nd with a time of 19:10.90.

Next was the Women's Open Novice 4's, where the boat of Lauren Maryea (South Hadley, Mass.), Zoe Goris (Providence, R.I.), Piper LaPointe (Norfolk, Mass.) and Casey Nichols (Hanover, N.H.), led by coxswain Keamo Mokone (Pretoria, South Africa) won with a time of 22:32.51. 

Mount Holyoke College had a pair of boats in the Women's Open 2X, as Hazen and LeBlanc took third with a time of 20:08.69, just ahead of Shoshi Daniels (Rye, N.Y.) and Sabina Morris (New York, N.Y.), who finished eighth with a time of 22:37.75. 

Lastly, the Lyons had two boats entered into the Women's Open V4, where the team of Shannon, Greer, LaRonde and Kaur, led by coxswain Genesis Rocha (Newark, N.J.) produced a 14th-place finish with a time of 21:05.66, finishing ahead of the boat consisting of Celena Krantz (Seattle, Wash.), Cynthia Rhodes (San Antonio, Texas), Elle Bukosky (Trenton, N.J.) and Lancaster, led by coxswain Ilana Goldin (Livingston, N.J.), which finsihed 22nd with a time of 25:34.85. 

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will race against Williams College at Lake Onota in Pittsfield, Mass. on Saturday, October 19.
