Rowing Competes at Tail of the Housatonic; Lyons Win Varsity Eights

Fairfield, Conn. - October 5, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed at the Tail of the Housatonic in Fairfield, Conn. on Saturday morning at Hidden Acres Family Campground.

Leading the way for the Lyons was the V8 team of Casey Roepke (Burlingame, Calif.), Elizabeth Hazen (Brookline, Mass.), Simran Kaur (Hanover, N.H.), Xena Ault (Forest Park, Ill.), Johanna Van Fleet (Bow, N.H.), Jocelyn Greer (Glen Rock, N.J.), Hannah LeBlanc (Portland, Ore.), Piper Kilgore (Deerfield, N.H.) and coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson (Berkeley, Calif.). This boat took first overall in the race with a time of 20:55.

Next for the Lyons was the team of Katherine Dailey (Camden, Maine), Amy Wang (Beijing, China), Piper LaPointe (Norfolk, Mass.), Lainie LaRonde (Manlius, N.Y.), Casey Nichols (Hanover, N.H.), Halee Mahoney (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Audrey Shannon (Milton, Ga.) and Sabina Morris (New York, N.Y.), led by coxswain Jaia Colognese (Jamestown, R.I.), which took fourth with a time of 22:38.

Wrapping up the race for the Lyons was the team of Celena Krantz (Seattle, Wash.), Liz Lewis, Claire Gabel (Watertown, Mass.), Cynthia Rhodes (San Antonio, Texas), Zoe Goris (Providence, R.I.), Lauren Maryea (South Hadley, Mass.), Elle Bukosky (Trenton, N.J.) and Sarah Lancaster (Ann Arbor, Mich.), led by coxswain Keamo Mokone (Pretoria, South Africa), which took first in the Novice 8's with a time of 24:40.

"We are grateful to be able to jump in and get a nice long piece under our belts, commented head rowing coach at Mount Holyoke College, Seth Hussey. "It was a great experience for those racing for the first time and great training for the group as we look forward into the rest of October."

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to the Head of the Riverfront race on Sunday, October 6 in Hartford, Conn.

The Lyons will resume competition on Saturday, October 5 as Mount Holyoke College will travel to Fairfield, Conn. for the Tail of the Housatonic at 9 a.m.
