O'Byrne Earns Top NEWMAC Defensive Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 3, 2012) – Goalkeeper Anne O'Byrne has been named NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week after leading Mount Holyoke College to a perfect 1-0 start in its opening week of action. The senior shutout Regis College with a nine save effort in the season-opener for the Lyons.

O'Byrne (Newbury, N.H./Proctor Academy) had several key saves in the contest for Mount Holyoke, including a stop on a penalty stroke for the Pride late in the first half of action. She played in 73:45 for the Lyons on Saturday as the squad came away with a 1-0 win in overtime.

Mount Holyoke (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) opens the home portion of its schedule with a pair of games this week. The Lyons welcome Nichols on Thursday (7pm) and Castleton State on Saturday (1pm).
