Field Hockey Blanks Westfield State, 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass.  (Oct. 23, 2012) – Senior forward Angelica Pascual tallied a goal and an assist to lead Mount Holyoke College to a 3-0 victory over Westfield State University in a non-conference field goal hockey on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. With the win, the Lyons moved to 7-8 on the season, while the Owls slipped to 10-6 overall.

Pascual assisted on the game-winning goal by Christine Ianni in the 19th minute and later scored Mount Holyoke's second tally in the 31st minute to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. Kirsten Kilburn was credited with the assist on Pascual's tally.

MHC's Anna Hartman then made it a three-goal lead (3-0) with an unassisted tally in the 52nd minute to complete the scoring.

For the game, Mount Holyoke outshot Westfield, 21-3, and also dominated the penalty corners by a 12-2.

Lyons' goaltender Anne O'Byrne was forced to make one save over 67:05 of action, before giving way to Emma Ross, who had no saves in 2:55 of relief. Westfield goalie Khrystyna Mitchell recorded 11 saves.

The Owls return to action on Saturday against Little East-rival, Salem State at 3:30pm. The Lyons travel to Babson, also on Saturday, for a 12pm contest against the NEWMAC-foe Beavers.
