SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Apr. 2, 2011) – Maya Sayarath, Eman Malik and Sarah Moore each recorded victories at both singles and doubles to propel the Mount Holyoke College women's tennis team to a convincing 8-1 triumph over RPI today at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex Field House. It was the Lyons' fifth victory of the season and their second in a row.
Mount Holyoke swept the three doubles matches to gain control in the early going. After an 8-1 triumph by Sayarath and Malik at the number three slot, Moore and AnnElizabeth Konkel picked up an 8-5 win in their number two tilt. Natalie Hsiang and Nahrhee Han then closed things out with a 9-8 (7-0) triumph at the top spot.
The Lyons finished out the day with five singles wins. Sayarath, Malik and Kelsey Brower each prevailed in straight sets, while Heather Richardson and Moore split their first two sets before winning in third set super tiebreakers.
RPI's lone point came from Jessica Sitzer, who overcame an early deficit to defeat Han a third set super tiebreaker.
Mount Holyoke (5-8, 3-4 NEWMAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when it visits Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m. After travelling to Smith College later this afternoon, RPI (7-3, 0-0 LL) will host Springfield College on Sunday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m.
