NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sept. 22, 2010) – With Sara Krivoshik and Jen Herbert leading the way, the Connecticut College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over Mount Holyoke College today at the South Tennis Courts.
After combining for a 9-7 win at the number three doubles slot, the sophomores each secured straight sets victories in their respective singles matches for the Camels. Herbert downed first year AnnElizabeth Konkel at number four, and Krivoshik topped junior Heather Richardson at number five.
Mount Holyoke jumped out to an early lead with a pair of doubles triumphs. Senior Natalie Hsiang and junior Sarah Moore prevailed 8-6 at the number one position, while Konkel and sophomore My-Linh Nguyen won by the same score in their number two tilt.
Connecticut College (1-1, 0-0 NESCAC) then responded with six unanswered points on the singles side. In addition to Krivoshik and Herbert, sophomore Cassie Smith, junior Becca Heupel and senior Caroline Barone also came up with straight sets victories.
First year Maya Sayarath took junior Brittany Badik to the limit before falling 10-6 in the third and deciding set.
Mount Holyoke (0-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) will resume its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) slate on Saturday at Wellesley College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
