Tennis Falls to Wellesley Despite Strong Performance by Sayarath, 7-2

Elise Marifian WELLESLEY, Mass. (Sept. 25, 2010) – The Wellesley College women's tennis team secured a 7-2 victory over Mount Holyoke College this afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Keohane Tennis Courts.

Leading the way for the Blue were Jacqueline Shen, Diana Granger, Erica Choo and Kendall Tada, who each triumphed at both doubles and singles.

Wellesley jumped out to an early lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. Shen and Granger picked up an 8-3 win at number one, while Choo and Tada added an 8-5 victory at number two. First year Maya Sayarath and senior Elise Marifian got the Lyons on the board with an 8-6 win at the number three position.

The Blue (2-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) then took five of the six singles to put things out of reach. Shen, Choo, Nathalie Herman, Tada and Granger all prevailed in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Sayarath completed her outstanding day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six singles.

Mount Holyoke (0-3, 0-2 NEWMAC) is slated to host Smith on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
