NYU Wins 2016 Liberty League Championship; Mount Holyoke Finishes 3rd

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Led by a medalist performance from first year Jennifer Bluetling, the New York University women's golf team claimed its second straight Liberty League Championship title on Sunday afternoon at The Orchards Golf Club, hosted by Mount Holyoke College. The Violets posted a 15-stroke victory, finishing with a score of 644, edging runner-up St. Lawrence University which finished with a 659 in this year's event.

Following the Violets and Saints in third were the host Lyons, who posted a score of 699. Vassar College was fourth with a score of 704, followed by Wellesley College in fifth with 729, Union College in fourth with 739 and William Smith College in seventh with a final score of 760.

Bluetling garnered medalist honors this year as she posted a combined score of 155. In the opening round, she shot the lowest mark in the field of 75, finishing with a score of 80 in the final round. St. Lawrence senior Claire O'Neil, who is a two-time medalist in her career, finished runner-up and just one shot off the lead with a score of 156. She posted a 76 on day one, tying with Bluetling in the final round with an 80. 

In addition to Bluetling and O'Neil, the All-Liberty League First Team featured Mount Holyoke junior June Conti, who was third overall with a score of 160 after shooting n 82 on day one with a 78 in the final round. Lyons junior Allison Shilling was fourth with a 162 (81-81), followed by a trio of NYU players all tied for 163, including Catherina Li (86-77), Kristin Lee (80-83), Alyssa Poentis (81-82).

Earning Second Team recognition was St. Lawrence sophomore Hailey Wilson, who was eighth overall with a score of 164 (82-82). Teammate Laura Gay was ninth with a score of 168 (8-79) while Union's Emily Ferguson (83-88) and Violets' Mikeala Santos (86-85) were 10th with scores of 171.
