CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The 2015-16 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has announced their All-Scholar Team GPA Awards and the Mount Holyoke College squad has been recognized. The Lyons boasted the 22nd-best GPA last season, ranking in the top-25 among schools from all divisions across college golf.
Mount Holyoke finished the year with a collective team effort of a 3.687 GPA which was 22nd overall. The Lyons' collective mark ranked better than the University of Idaho, Butler University and the University of Kentucky. This year's top-ranked team was Lindenwood University with a GPA of 3.901.
During the 2015-16 campaign under the direction of fifth-year head coach Tim Walko, MHC finished in the top-10 in all eight meets they competed in, including three efforts in the top-five. The Lyons finished third overall at the 2016 Liberty League Championships as junior captains June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) and Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) both garnered All-Liberty League First Team honors. It was the second straight year-end recognition for both players and the second straight First Team award for Conti.
The Lyons also saw a Liberty League-best five student-athletes named to the conference's All-Academic Team during 2015-16. In addition to Conti and Shilling, fellow juniors Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline), Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School) and Vladislava Paskova (Sofia, Bulgaria/American College of Sofia) were also recognized.
Mount Holyoke opens its 2016-17 season on September 17 when it opens action at the two-day Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. Saturday's action kicks-off at 11am, followed by a 9am start to competition on Sunday.
The WGCA recognizes the women's golf program with the highest collective team GPA which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2015-16 season. The award is presented regardless of division.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents nearly 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
