SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – New York University holds an 11-stroke lead after the opening day of action at the 2016 Liberty League Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at The Orchards Golf Club. The Violets, who are the defending champions, opened with a score of 322 in Round One which was highlighted by first Jennifer Bluetling's top score amongst all players.

Bluetling shot a 75 through the first 18 holes on Saturday to pace the 34-player field. St. Lawrence senior Claire O'Neil, a two-time league championship medalist, is one stroke back with 76, followed by NYU sophomore Kristin Lee with an 80 through the opening round.

Violets' sophomore Alyssa Poentis - last year's championship medalist - and MHC junior Allison Shilling are tied for fourth with a round score of 81, while Lyons' junior June Conti and Saints' sophomore Hailey Wilson each have a score of 82 – good for sixth overall.

Union sophomore Emily Ferguson sits eighth with a score of 83, followed by Vassar sophomore Annie Hsu in ninth with 85. Five players head into Sunday's final round locked in a tie for 10th including NYU's Catherina Li and Mikeala Santos, Vassar's Kristin Diep, St. Lawrence's Natalie Squillace and Mount Holyoke's Heeamin Lee. All five shot an 86 to open the tournament.

Just behind the leading Violets is St. Lawrence, who combined for an opening score of 333. The host Lyons sit third overall with a score of 345, followed by Vassar (348), Union (369), Wellesley (376) and William Smith (380).

Action at this year's tournament continues on Sunday as the field begins teeing off at 9am. The winner of the Liberty League Championship earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
