Golf Finishes 9th at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team rallied on Sunday, rising two spots from the previous day, to finish ninth overall at the Vassar Invitational. The Lyons shot a combined 739 on the weekend, including a 361 on day two.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was junior captain June Conti, who posted a score of 84 on Sunday to finish tied for 16th overall. That effort was four strokes better than her score on Saturday (88), giving her a combined 172 on the weekend.

Junior Heeamin Lee, the Lyons leader in the opening round, finished 29th on the weekend with a score of 178. After shooting an 87 on Saturday, she posted a 91 in the final round. Classmate and team captain Allison Shilling placed 40th overall on the weekend with a total score of 186. She recorded a 99 on day one, but rebounded strong in the final round with a total of 87.

Junior Vladislova Paskova finished 56th in the field, recording a score of 203. She shot a 104 in the opening round, and like Shilling, battled back for a score of 99 in the finals. Rounding out the efforts was senior Katie Poulin, who was tied for 58th with a score of 211. She posted a 106 on Saturday with a score of 105 on Sunday.

This year's event winner was Williams, which posted a solid 305 on Sunday, combining for a total of 627 on the weekend. Amherst finished second overall with a score of 649, followed by Middlebury (678), SUNY Cortland (680) and St. Lawrence University (691).

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst at Hickory Ridge. Competition gets underway on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
