Schneider Selected to ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship All-Conference TeamMay 31, 2011For the second year in a row, Mount Holyoke College crew team member Cleo Schneider has been named to the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships All-Conference Team. The recent graduate helped her team to an 11th place finish earlier this month.

Crew Wraps Up Season at ECAC National Invitational Collegiate RegattaMay 08, 2011Mount Holyoke closed out its 2010-11 season with an 11th place finish at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta today. A total of 21 programs from around the region participated in the event on Lake Quinsigamond. Mount Holyoke’s three varsity boats, as well as its novice boat competed.

Awards Handed Out at Annual Athletics BanquetMay 05, 2011The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

Twenty Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of crew, track and field and lacrosse.

Trio of Rowers Earn NEWMAC All-Conference AccoladesApril 20, 2011After taking home fourth place at the NEWMAC Championship on Saturday, three members of Mount Holyoke’s crew team were named to All-Conference Teams. Representing the Lyons on the varsity squad were seniors Robyn Kranzler and Cleo Schneider. First year Kristen Therrien earned novice team accolades.

Crew Takes Fourth at NEWMAC ChampionshipApril 16, 2011Mount Holyoke grabbed fourth place at the NEWMAC Championship this morning on Lake Quinsigamond. Wellesley claimed top honors at the event for the first time since 2003. The Blue crossed the line first in both the varsity eight and novice eight races.

In addition to taking top honors in the first varsity race, the Lyons also clocked the top time in the novice race. They were joined in the competition by Simmons, Union, Franklin and Marshall, Clark and UMass Lowell.

Crew Faces Off Against Smith, Trinity and Holy CrossApril 09, 2011Mount Holyoke faced off against Smith, Trinity and Holy Cross today on Lake Quinsigamond. Trinity grabbed top honors in each of the races. Mount Holyoke finished fourth in the first and second varsity eight races. The Lyons occupied the third and fifth positions in the novice race.

Crew Kicks Off Spring Slate Against Tufts, Simmons and VermontApril 02, 2011Mount Holyoke kicked off its spring slate against Tufts, Simmons and the Vermont today on the Malden River. Over the course of the day, the Lyons competed in seven races, with all five boats taking part. Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight boat defeated Tufts, while its first novice eight boat topped both Tufts and Simmons.

2011 Spring Schedules Now AvailableMarch 28, 2011The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics has unveiled schedules for each of its spring teams. Printable copies of the schedules are available for download here. Teams included are lacrosse, tennis, riding, golf, crew and outdoor track and field.

Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value CollegeMarch 03, 2011Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.

2010 Seven Sisters Crew RegattaOctober 30, 2010For the second season in a row, Wellesley College secured top honors at the annual Seven Sisters Championship Regatta. The Blue piled up 34 points en route to their third overall title. This season’s event was hosted by Mount Holyoke College on the Connecticut River. The Lyons finished in fourth place overall.

Bryn Mawr College, Smith College, Simmons College and Wellesley College will join the Lyons on the Connecticut River beginning at 10:10 a.m.

Crew Competes in Head of the Charles RegattaOctober 24, 2010The Mount Holyoke crew team participated in the 46th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts today. A total of 55 races took place on the Charles River on Saturday and Sunday. Mount Holyoke’s varsity eight boat participated in the Collegiate Eights Division. Facing off against 30 teams from around the country, the Lyons posted a 13th place result. Among the 21 Division III teams in the field, they finished 10th.

A total of seven boats represented the Lyons at the event, which took place on the Merrimack River.

Crew Kicks Off 2010-11 Campaign at Snake RegattaOctober 09, 2010he Mount Holyoke crew team kicked off its 2010-11 season at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta today in Worcester, Mass. A total of six boats represented the Lyons at the competition, which took place on Lake Quinsigamond. Mount Holyoke’s first varsity eight boat took home sixth place in its race, crossing the line in 17:47.550.

Rain Causes Cancellation of Valley RegattaOctober 02, 2010The Mount Holyoke crew team will have to wait until next Saturday to kick off its 2010-11 campaign. Today's Valley Regatta was cancelled due to poor river conditions. The event was slated to take place on the Connecticut River, but heavy rainfall over the past few days caused water levels to rise drastically. Mount Holyoke is slated to compete in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta next Saturday in Worcester, Mass. The Lyons recorded a first place finish at the event last fall.

Crew Team Member Liz Bernal Talks Training in "Rowing News"September 21, 2010Everyone calls rowing a “mental sport” yet most of the training we do focuses on the physical. Mount Holyoke crew head coach Jeanne Friedman believes it should be the other way around. Heading into her 20th year with the Lyons, Friedman works as much on her athletes’ minds as their bodies. Through such training, she has been able to break through her athletes perceived mental barriers and create championship crews.
