The Mount Holyoke rowing program celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2016. Each year, 50-60 women represent the College in races against intercollegiate teams from around the nation. The Lyons belong to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III level.

The program is fortunate to row out of Mount Holyoke's very own 4,750 square foot boathouse, which was completed in 2010 and is just over a mile from campus. The program goal is to compete for a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships. 

The Lyons have earned numerous honors over the past several years, including:

• Gold medal for the novice eight at the NEWMAC Championship (2005, 2014)
• Silver medal for the novice eight at the ECAC Championship (2014)
• Bronze medal for the novice eight at the New England Rowing Championship (2005, 2014)
• First place at the Seven Sisters Championship (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2005, 2008)
• First place at the NEWMAC Championship (1997, 2007)
• Gold medal for the novice eight at the New England Rowing Championships (2007)
• Silver medal for the lightweight eight at the New England Rowing Championships (1997, 2001)
• Top Division III finish for the lightweight four at the Head of the Charles Regatta (2001)
• Silver medal for the varsity four at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Regatta (2003)

Balancing scholastic, athletic and extracurricular activities, Mount Holyoke oarswomen have been Olympic medalists, World Championship competitors and Rhodes and Fulbright Scholars.
