HOOKSET, N.H. (Oct. 16, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College crew team continued the fall portion of its schedule at the New Hampshire Championships Regatta today. A total of seven boats represented the Lyons at the event, which took place on the Merrimack River.

Mount Holyoke's first varsity boat was split into two squads, which participated in the open four race. Of the 17 teams taking part in the competition, the Lyons finished second and third. Their top team's time of 16:08.63 was the best among collegiate entrants, while their second team crossed the line in 16:12.52. The field also included Middlebury College, Simmons College, Clark University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Assumption College, Endicott College, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Brandeis University. Community Rowing grabbed first place with a time of 15:58.05. A third Mount Holyoke squad comprised of novice rowers recorded a time of 20:45.06.

The Lyons were also well represented in the novice eight division, which included eight teams. Their top entrant took home second place with a time of 17:02.93, while their second team secured sixth place with a time of 19:11.20. Simmons collected first place by completing the race in 16:14.41.

Mount Holyoke's second and third varsity boats competed in the open eight race, taking fifth (15:47.51) and seventh places (16:12.12), respectively.

The Lyons will return to action on Sunday, October 24, when they compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
