WORCESTER, Mass. (Apr. 10, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's crew team posted outstanding results on Lake Quinsigamond today. In addition to taking top honors in the first varsity race, the Lyons also clocked the top time in the novice race. They were joined in the competition by Simmons College, Union College, Franklin and Marshall College, Clark University and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight boat recorded a time of 7:31.5 to secure first place in its race. The Lyons finished in front of Simmons (7:34.6), Union (7:51.5), Franklin and Marshall (7:52.8), Clark (8:19.7) and UMass Lowell (8:24.0).
In the second varsity eight race, Mount Holyoke (7:51.2) was narrowly edged out by Simmons (7:47.4). The remainder of the field consisted of Franklin and Marshall and Union. The Lyons fell to Simmons in the third varsity eight race but defeated Clark in the novice eight race.
Mount Holyoke will return to Lake Quinsigamond for the NEWMAC Championships next Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
