MALDEN, Mass. (Apr. 2, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's crew kicked off its spring slate against Tufts University, Simmons College and the University of Vermont today on the Malden River. Over the course of the day, the Lyons competed in seven races, with all five boats taking part.
Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight boat cruised to a convincing victory over Tufts in its race, crossing the line in 7:16.7. The Lyons finished just under 13 seconds in front of the Jumbos.
It was more of the same in the first novice division, where Mount Holyoke topped both Tufts and Simmons. In their race against Tufts, the Lyons posted a time of 7:47.4. They then recorded a time of 7:58.9 against Simmons.
Mount Holyoke's second varsity boat came up short in races against Tufts and Vermont. Its third varsity and second novice boats were also defeated by Tufts.
The Lyons will return to action next Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond. Their opponents will be the College of the Holy Cross, Trinity College and Smith College.
