WORCESTER, Mass. (May 8, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's crew team closed out its 2010-11 season with an 11th place finish at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta today. A total of 21 programs from around the region participated in the event on Lake Quinsigamond. Mount Holyoke's three varsity boats, as well as its novice boat competed.
Williams College secured top honors with a score of 78. The Ephs were followed by Trinity College (70) and Wellesley College (61) in the top three. Rounding out the top five were Ithaca College (57) and Bates College (55). The Lyons totaled 34 points on the day.
Mount Holyoke's varsity eight boat finished in 15th place overall. The Lyons started the day with a fifth place showing in their preliminary heat (6:48.514). They then nabbed third place in the Third Level Final (7:13.334), crossing the line in front of Tufts University, Wesleyan University and Colby College. Smith College (7:08.163) and St. Lawrence University (7:10.327) finished first and second in the race.
After taking sixth place in its initial heat (7:06.905), Mount Holyoke's second varsity boat grabbed fourth place (7:28.040) in the Third Level Final of its division. The Lyons finished 16th overall.
Meanwhile, Mount Holyoke's third varsity boat collected sixth place in its opening round heat (7:52.153) before taking sixth (8:11.906) in the Petite Final.
Mount Holyoke's novice eight boat posted a sixth place finish out of 12 competitors. In their initial heat, the Lyons grabbed third place (7:17.776). They then moved on to the Grand Final, where they finished sixth (7:45.448).
